Oh my, I don't even know where to start! Carl and Anna are friends from my past life as a designer. Two artful souls with compassionate hearts and a mutual love of the outdoors. They both work in the agency world, Carl as filmmaker and Anna as a stylist, and they've had a love for adventure in Minnesota's north woods forever.
When Carl emailed me about their August wedding day, I couldn't believe he wanted ME to shoot it. I mean, it's truly a dream come true — a secluded, family-only ceremony tucked up in the woods of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, followed by photos at some of their favorite spots on the trail, champagne at Anna's parents' cabin, and dinner at the historic Naniboujou Lodge — a photographer's dream. Plus, donuts in Grand Marais on the drive up the Gunflint Trail, and sunset photos on Lake Superior before dinner.
Well it was hot. Like, the hottest day of the summer. But the love these two had for each other, the gorgeous setting, and the quiet, tall shade of the north woods made it truly a day to remember. Anna and Carl invited only their closest family members — nine of them — to spend the weekend at Naniboujou Lodge and take in the beautiful, relaxing weekend. The camp where they married is where Anna's parents met. Her Dad officiated the wedding and serenaded them with a surprise guitar solo. Their siblings read the most beautiful poems, and Anna and Carl's handwritten vows were SO heartfelt and I definitely teared up. Congratulations, you two, and thank you so much for letting me be a part of your beautiful wedding day.
